Why wool
I enjoy working with sheep and spending a lot of my day outside. I believe that demand for wool will continue to grow as it s a natural fibre that is comfortable and versatile. Kangaroo Island’s soils and climate are well suited to wool production, we have a strong community and it’s a great place to work and raise a family. Wool production provides my family with an honest living and a great lifestyle.

Our family’s story
I have a solid history of producing wool on both sides of my family. Dad’s father Albert started farming wool on Kangaroo Island in 1954 and Mum’s father Maxwell started back in 1924. My brothers Colin, Ian and I are third generation wool producers. You could say the Bolto family has a lot of history and experience growing wool.

The Bolto Farm
Our farm is in MacGillivray which is on the coast approximately 30 kilometres south of Kingscote. MacGillivray is noted for its unique vegetation and its many and vast lagoons.
We have merino sheep, cereal and hay crops. The majority of our land is for grazing, with hay and grain kept and fed to our sheep as needed to keep them healthy.

My Kangaroo Island
Our farm! But we also like Vivonne Bay – it has a beautiful beach, some rugged south coast shoreline, and a river that’s great for fishing and kayaking.

My favourite is the Pilbara jacket. It’s warm and comfy and the full-length zip makes it easy to take on and off to suit our ever-changing Kangaroo Island weather.
